MLS Soccer has taken America by storm finally after years of sitting behind the "other professional sports". Soccer in America has long trailed its global success. The NFL has been the gold standard of successful field sports in the United States and it was long thought that Soccer just wasn't American enough. Well here we are in the mid-2000s and youth soccer leagues are pumping out players in record numbers which means the sport is continuing to grow. This is will be better for Soccer as time goes on. For a long time, any talented American Soccer player would have to go to Europe or South America to compete at the highest level. The American professional teams relied on aging stars from European Soccer Clubs , South America, And the Concacaf to fill their own rosters in hopes of creating crowds. The crowds were small and the soccer was not great and the fans knew it. But with a renewed interest in Soccer in the United States has delivered in both areas of weakness the better gameplay by home players is now fueling better crowds. Games are sold out and the leagues have been steadily expanding for over a decade now. Attendance is setting yearly records and games are selling out as well as season tickets.
The World Cup 2026 is going to be a great test for increased attention to soccer not only for the MLS but it should be a statement by the American men and where they rank on the world stage. Hopefully, our men take the challenge head one and go deep into the largest soccer tournament in the world. An early exit again would be a huge disappointment.
MLS Soccer has two divisions the Eastern and Western Divisions. The Eastern conference has 14 teams currently in 2022. The Western conference is 14 teams currently as well. The MLS Cup Final game has two teams with more wins than anyone else and they are LA Galaxy (5), DC United (4). Then there are multiple teams with 1-2 championships. In their youngish history, this is a pretty healthy distribution of titles. Check out the MLS All-Star Game it's a great time, unlike some other sports which have turned them into sideshows.
