Above & Beyond is a trio of English DJs (Jono Grant and Tony McGuinness) and a Finnish DJ (Paavo Siljamäki) who make electronic music. They've been together since 2000 and run the electronic dance music labels Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep out of London.

In 2000, at Home, a now-defunct London nightclub, Grant and Paavo Siljamäki personally handed Paul Oakenfold a dubplate of the song. The original mix of "Volume One," wrapped with their Tease Dub Mix, rapidly gained close attention at multiple nightclubs with backing from DJs like Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, and Paul van Dyk.

First featuring Richard Bedford on vocals since "Black Room Boy" in 2013, "Northern Soul" was released on November 3, 2017, as the next Above & Beyond song. The single and accompanying music video were released on the same day, with the artists performing atop a mountain in the French Alps.

The album Common Ground, featuring the tracks "Tightrope," "My Own Hymn," "Northern Soul," and "Always," was published on January 26, 2018, via Anjunabeats.

Released on September 7, 2018, "Rocket Science" was first performed in front of 23,000 people at the Gorge Amphitheatre in 2017. They said they were only playing around with a new digital audio workstation (DAW) that they loved.

The band announced their fifth studio album in June 2019, and then on July 19, they released Flow State, a completely ambient album.
