The Airborne Toxic Event is a rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2006. Named for a passage in Don DeLillo's White Noise, the group—which has often played alongside Los Angeles-based string quartet Calder Quartet—is recognized for its mix of rock songs and symphonic arrangements. The ensemble has also performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the Louisville Orchestra.

In September 2019, it was reported that Anna Bulbrook would be departing the band and that the group was working on a new project. Headman Mikel Jollett revealed on Twitter on November 12, 2019, that Rounder Records released the band's sixth studio album, Hollywood Park, on May 8, 2020.

Released three days earlier on May 5 through Celadon Books, Jollett's book of the same name serves as a companion piece for the album. On December 20, 2019, Oprah Magazine ranked Hollywood Park as one of the 30 most expected novels of 2020. The band put out fresh songs called "Faithless" in 2022 and "Glory" in July 2024.
