Anita Denise Baker (January 26, 1958) is an American singer-songwriter born in Toledo, Ohio. Baker became famous for her heartfelt songs during the Tranquil Storm era in the 1980s.

Baker's career began in the late '70s with the funk band Chapter 8, and it peaked in 1983 with the publication of her debut solo album, The Songstress. Her second album, 1986's platinum-selling Rapture, included the Grammy-winning hit "Sweet Love," which catapulted her to stardom.

Baker's album, from which "Only Forever" came out as a hit single, has been in the works since 2010. Baker's cover of "Lately" by Tyrese was published in August 2012. She made history when her debut single became the first song in the history of urban adult contemporary radio to be played exactly once per hour.

As of 2017, Baker had eight Grammys, four platinum albums, and two gold ones. Baker can sing in nearly three octaves as a contralto. Before the 2022 NFC Championship Game played between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, Baker sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.

Baker was included on Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2023.
