Chris Brown (May 5, 1989) is an American actor, singer, dancer, and songwriter born in Tappanhannock, Virginia. At an early age, Brown learned to sing and dance, and he frequently mentions Michael Jackson as an influence. At first, he just sang in the church choir, but soon, he was performing at talent events all over town. In an interview with Shannon Sharpe from the year 2023, Brown revealed that he began to seriously pursue a career in music after winning a talent competition at summer camp when he was eleven years old.

Hitmission Records, a local production company, stopped by the gas station where Brown's dad worked when he was thirteen to find talent. Diddy, a hip-hop musician, turned down his request to sign him to Bad Boy Records when he and TJ, the son of one of his production managers, performed for him around the same time. Recording for Brown's self-titled first album began in February 2005, following his 2004 agreement with Jive Records. 

After surpassing Presley for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries among all male vocalists, Brown eclipsed Presley for the most RIAA gold-certified songs among all male vocalists in history in January 2023. Under the Influence, Brown's smash single from March 2023 became the fifth artist in Billboard history to achieve ten number-one singles on the R&B/hip-hop Airplay chart.
