Diana Ross (March 26, 1944) is an American actress, songwriter, and record producer. She was born and raised in Detroit and always knew she would work in the fashion industry. Diana took courses in cosmetology and modeling in addition to learning millinery, pattern making, tailoring, and garment design. In January of 1962, she received her diploma.

Ross was the first African-American worker at Hudson's Department Store to be promoted out of the kitchen. Ross joined the Primettes (a male singing group titled Primes) at the tender age of fifteen and started her career in music. Several musicians, including Robinson, Berry Gordy, Janie Bradford, and others, sought Ross out when she was a part of this collective. Gordy rebranded Ross and the Supremes from the Primettes.

She is the first female musician to have topped the Billboard Hot 100 with singles as a solo act, half of a duet, as a trio member, and as part of an ensemble. Billboard listed her as the No. 30 greatest Hot 100 performer of all time in 2021. Ross was among the top five artists on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list from 1955 to 2018.

In 1977, she won a Special Tony Award; in 2007, she was honored with the Kennedy Center Honors; in 2012 and 2023, she became the only woman to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award twice (the second time as a member of The Supremes). In 2016, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
