Green Day is an American rock band that started in 1987 in the East Bay of California. Lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and backup singer Mike Dirnt founded it. Since replacing John Kiffmeyer on drums in 1990, just before recording their second studio album, Kerplunk (1991), the band has been a power trio with Tré Cool.

A total of 20 albums by the band have been nominated for Grammys, with five of them going on to win: Dookie (Best Alternative Album), American Idiot (Best Rock Album), 21st Century Breakdown (Best Rock Album), "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Record of the Year), and American Idiot (Best Musical Show Album) (Original Broadway Cast Recording).

The band announced in November 2022 that they were working on new music in the studio. The album, produced by Rob Cavallo, is set for release in early 2024 and will be his first with the band since Tré! (2012). The band previewed a new song titled "1981" at their performance at the Festival d'été de Québec on July 16, 2023, before the album was even released. The band Green Day performed at the halftime act at the 2023 Grey Cup, which was confirmed on September 30.

The release date for the next album was set for October 24, 2023, when the name Saviors was announced. The scheduled release date is January 19, 2024. On the same day, a track named "The American Dream Is Killing Me" was released as the album's lead single. On November 2, 2023, the follow-up single "Look Ma, No Brains!" was released.
