King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are a famous rock band that originated from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The band came together in 2010. Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh comprise the band's current roster. Released on their label, Flightless, the band's earliest works fused surf music with garage rock. Nonagon Infinity, released in 2016, received the ARIA for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album, bringing them further critical acclaim. In 2017, the band kept its promise to release five studio songs in the same year. In 2020, the group's manager and second drummer, Eric Moore, quit. The band has consistently released many albums annually since 2019, most recently three in October 2022.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard ranked number one on the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance's 2019 list of the world's hardest-working musicians. The 113 local and international live gigs they did between January 2018 and August 2019 earned them this recognition.

The band's 2020 song "If Not Now, Then When?" won the first annual Environmental Music Prize on June 16. The Prize money of $20,000 was given to them, which was then given to the Wilderness Society. In 2023, they dropped PetroDragonic Apocalypse, their 24th studio album.
