Tione Jayden Merritt (April 30, 2001), better known by his stage name Lil Tjay, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born in New York City. His 2017 single "Resume" propelled him into the spotlight, and the following year, his breakthrough single, "Brothers," led to a record deal with Columbia Records. 

Tjay started uploading songs on SoundCloud in 2016. When Merritt originally released "Resume" at 16, it instantly became a viral hit on the web. At the NYC All Ages Edition of Coast 2 Coast LIVE on March 10, 2018, Tjay participated and won first place. He ended up impressing an A&R from a record company that was there to judge the showcase. After the success of his then-current track, "Brothers," Tjay quickly signed with Columbia Records.

His first charting effort, 2019's True 2 Myself, debuted at No.5 on the Billboard 200. It was his first studio album. The following year, he dropped a tape, State of Emergency, which included exclusively New York City drill musicians.

His second solo album, Destined 2 Win, came out in 2021 and included the hit "Calling My Phone" (with 6lack), his most famous song to date. Tjay released the single "Gangsta Boo" in 2023 alongside fellow New York artist Ice Spice; in July of the same year, he dropped his third studio album, 222, which went on to sell 22,000 copies in its first week.
