Jordan Terrell Carter (September 13, 1996) is an American rapper. He is professionally known by his stage name, Playboi Carti born in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2011, while a teenager, Carti began recording music as Sir Cartier. In 2013, he changed his name to Playboi Carti. Since 2011, he's been sharing his music via SoundCloud. He signed with the label after connecting with Awful Records producer Ethereal in 2014. It was Ethereal who Carti says guided him to his sound. In 2015, his SoundCloud tracks "Broke Boi" and "Fetti," featuring Dash and Maxo Kream, gained him some notoriety.

Playboi Carti appeared on "Unlock It" by ABRA and on "Off the Grid," "Junya," and "Junya, Pt. 2" by Kanye West, all from West's 2021 album Donda, which was released in August. Tweets like "Hello Twitter" and "love all my supporters, it's time" appeared on his account on December 25, 2022, marking his return to Twitter after an absence of more than a year and perhaps foreshadowing a Christmas Day release similar to his second studio album, Whole Lotta Red, on December 25, 2020. Rolling Loud California kicked off on March 3, 2023, with Carti as the opening act. He also previewed a new " Rockstar " song that would likely appear on his next studio album.

Carti returned to Instagram on May 28, 2023, the first time since his incarceration in December 2022, by sharing a screenshot of him and The Weeknd FaceTiming on his story. An image of YoungBoy Never Broke Again wearing the upside-down cross chain that has become an Opium signature was shared to Carti's Instagram story on June 12, 2023, and later that day, Jewelry Unlimited announced on Instagram that the two artists were collaborating on an album to be dubbed 004KT.
