Social Distortion is a Fullerton, California-based American punk rock band founded in 1978. Lead singer and guitarist Mike Ness is joined on lead guitar by rhythm guitarist Jonny Wickersham, bassist Brent Harding and, backing vocalist David Hidalgo Jr., and keyboardist David Kalish. Social Distortion has a considerable discography, including seven studio albums, two collections, a live CD, and two DVDs. They were signed to Epic Records in 1989 and released two albums, Mommy's Little Monster (1983) and Prison Bound (1988), before securing a three-album deal.

The third album by Social Distortion, named Social Distortion, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1990. It contained the band's now-iconic hits "Ball and Chain," "Story of My Life," and a version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire." Mike Ness revealed his diagnosis of stage one tonsil cancer on June 7, 2023. He is anticipated to recover completely following surgery. Both the band's next tour and studio album have been delayed. 

In honor of Mommy's Little Monster's 40th anniversary, Social Distortion will be performing the full album live in April and May of 2024 as part of a co-headlining tour with Bad Religion, which was announced on December 12, 2023. Additionally, in September and October of 2024, Social Distortion will embark on its headline tour.
