An annual professional outdoor hardcourt tennis event held at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C., known as the Washington Open (also referred to as the D.C. Open) and branded as the Mubadala Citi DC Open due to sponsorship considerations. This tournament is part of the ATP and WTA 500 series, which counts towards both tours. The Washington Open, originally known as the Washington Star International, is an annual tournament that dates back to 1969 and is part of the U.S. Open Series, a series of North American hardcourt events that culminate in the U.S. Open. Before 1986, the tournament was played on clay courts. However, the surface was later converted to hardcourts. 

A WTA International (now WTA250) competition for women was added to the event in 2011 at a different location in College Park, Maryland; it was the first of its kind. The next year, the Washington venue hosted both the men's and women's competitions. The first and only joint-500-level event on the ATP and WTA tours was formed in 2023 when the WTA Silicon Valley Classic was incorporated into the Washington Open, effectively discontinuing the event.
