The Iowa State Cyclones women's team represents Iowa State University (ISU) in the Division I basketball competition. Bill Fennelly, who has been with Iowa State for 28 years, is the head coach of the squad. Hilton Coliseum, located on the Iowa State University campus, is the home field for the Cyclones. A top-tier women's basketball program is housed at Iowa State University. 

Among the 12 Big 12 conferences since its inception in 1996, Iowa State has the greatest conference tournament record, has won one regular season title and three tournament titles, and has only lost three seasons overall. Among Big 12 teams, only Oklahoma has more appearances in and victories over Iowa State in the tournament final. A successful program with a .758 overall winning percentage, three trips to the NCAA, and three WNIT appearances brought Fennelly to Iowa State. 

With a record of 410-184 overall and 177-118 in conference play, Fennelly has maintained that success during his nineteen seasons at Iowa State (1995-2014). In 1999 and 2009, Iowa State made it to the Elite 8. Six times between 1999 and 2001, 2009, 2010, and 2022, the Cyclones have reached the Sweet 16. Stacy Frese was the first AP All-American to play for Iowa State (1999). 2000 Iowa State won the Big 12 regular season title, and in 2000–2001 and 2023, they won three Big 12 Conference tournaments.
