The NCAA Baseball Super Regional became part of college baseball when the tournament expanded to its current format in 1999, creating a crucial step between regional play and the College World Series. It begins with a 64-team field competing in regionals, then moves to 16 teams at super regionals before culminating in an eight-team field at the Men's College World Series.
