The North Carolina Tar Heels is a football team representing the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in American football (Gridiron football). The Tar Heels compete in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). It also competes in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

The team plays under the head coach Mack Brown and athletic director Bubba Cunningham. The Tar Heels play their home games at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Some of the notable rivalries of the team include NC State, Duke, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

In its history, North Carolina has participated in 37 bowl games and has won three Southern Conference. Also, it secured five Atlantic Coast Conference championships. Thirty Tar Heel players have received 38 first-team All-America recognitions. Since joining the ACC in 1953, Carolina has had 174 first-team All-ACC selections and had 32 All-Southern Conference accolades during its time in that league up to 1952.
