The Washington Wizards are a professional basketball team founded in 1961. They are based in Washington, DC, and are a member of the NBA of the Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team's home games are played at the Capital One Arena, located in the Chinatown neighborhood of the city.

Will Dawkins is the current general manager, and Wes Unseld Jr. is the current head coach. The team is currently under the ownership of Monumental Sports & Entertainment (Ted Leonsis, Chairman/CEO).

The Wizards formerly played home games at the International Amphitheatre (1961-62), Chicago Coliseum (1962-63), Baltimore Civic Center (1963-73), and U.S. Airways Arena (1973-97). Previous names of the franchise were Chicago Packers (1961-62), Chicago Zephyrs (1962-63), Baltimore Bullets (1963-73), Capital Bullets (1973-74), and Washington Bullets (1974-97).

The NBA and MLB share uniform arrangements with Nike; therefore, the 2022–23 "City" jersey and the Washington Nationals' "City Connect" uniform were introduced. The cherry blossoms around Washington, D.C., in the springtime inspire this predominately pink team uniform with blue embellishments.

In 2024, the Washington Wizards took Frenchman Alexandre Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft, at Barclays Center. The Wizards carried the #2, #14, #26, and #51 overall picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. Just before the draft began, the Wizards acquired Bub Carrington from Pittsburgh in exchange for Deni Avdija and the Trail Blazers' #14 overall draft choice.

This season, the Washington Wizards have been rebuilding. Bradley Beal has been leading the team even though he has been hurt a few times. The team has put a lot of effort into growing their younger players, like Johnny Davis, a rookie who has already shown promise. Washington just signed Jaylen Nowell to a 10-day deal to look at him more closely as a possible future player. The Wizards have moved to get future assets, which means they will be rebuilding for a long time. Even though they don't have a good chance of making the playoffs, the team is focused on building for the future and growing their young players.
