The West Michigan Whitecaps play Minor League Baseball in the Midwest League and are the Detroit Tigers' High-A club. Game times are held at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan, a Grand Rapids suburb. West Michigan businessmen Dennis Baxter and Lew Chamberlin brought the Whitecaps to town. Before joining the Tigers' farm system in 1997, the Whitecaps were connected with the Oakland Athletics.

In 2006, we established several records as a team and in the league. The squad finished second in club history with an 89-48 record, including a 23-6 July. In a single game, Michael Hollimon hit three home runs. Cameron Maybin hit two grand slams during the season. Michael Hernandez became the only player in Midwest League history to hit for the cycle twice.

As part of MLB's reorganization of the Minor Leagues in 2021, the Whitecaps were moved to the High-A Central. After the reorganization, the High-A Central League was renamed the Midwest League in 2022, which was the moniker that the regional circuit had customarily used.
