Baylor Bears at SMU Mustangs Football

Gerald J. Ford Stadium is located in University Park, Texas, and is primarily used as the SMU Mustangs' football team's home field. The Armed Forces Bowl (NCAA) played in the stadium from 2010 to 2011. Also, the venue is often used for local high school football games. It has a seating capacity of 32,000 and a FieldTurf surface. The stadium is under the ownership of Southern Methodist University and is operated by the same. On September 10, 1999, the site officially opened for the local public on September 2, 2000, with a $42 million construction cost. Ellerbe Becket is the building's architecture.

Gerald J. Ford Stadium is named after a billionaire banker of the same name, who provided most of the funding for the stadium's construction. Doak Walker Plaza is present outside the northeast corner of the stadium, honoring the former Heisman Trophy winner along with SMU's greatest football star. The stadium was inaugurated with a football game against the University of Kansas on September 2, 2000.

Gerald J. Ford Stadium underwent renovations in 2012 when SMU Mustang Athletics announced additional luxury suites and access to designated outdoor seating areas. The entire renovation and construction were completed just before the start of the 2013 season.
