The Tennessee Theatre is a movie palace in downtown located at 604 South Gay Street, Knoxville, Tennessee. The theatre was built and opened to the general public on October 1, 1928, and after renovation, it was reopened on January 14, 2005. The theatre has a seating capacity of 1,645 patrons. AC Entertainment operates the venue. The architecture of the theatre was designed by Graven and Mayger based On the Spanish-Moorish style. The renovation cost of the theatre was $29.3 million. The theatre was registered as a National Historic Place on April 1, 1982. George A. Fuller constructed its structure. The theatre was the first building in Knoxville essential with the air-conditioning.

The theater has hosted many arts events and classic films for the public. It is residence to the Knoxville Opera and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Several notable Broadway productions that took place at the theatre included Movin’ Out, Hairspray, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweeney Todd, and Stomp. During its carousel, the theatre hosted such world movie premieres; So This Is Love in 1953 and the alteration of James Agee’s All The Way Home in 1963.
