James W. Miller Auditorium is located at 1341 Theatre Dr, Kalamazoo, Michigan. This performance venue is an auditorium type with a seating capacity of 3,497. The auditorium was inaugurated on 12 January 1968. It is under the ownership of Western Michigan University and currently serves as home to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. The inauguration ceremony of the auditorium enjoyed the presence of WMU's third president, James W. Miller.
The theater was later renamed after the name of the president. The James W. Miller Auditorium is considered to be the 5th largest auditorium in Michigan, after the Fox Theatre, MSU Concert Auditorium, Masonic Temple, and the Hill Auditorium. The venue has three various sections for the seatings that are the Orchestra level, the Grand Tier level, and the Balcony level. There is a division of the left and right sections to each level.
The Miller Auditorium hosts many kinds of events such as Western Michigan University commencement ceremonies along with Broadway shows like The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, and Chicago. The auditorium also offered stage to the famous artists including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jeff Corwin, Colin Mochrie, and Brad Sherwood, etc. The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra routinely plays shows throughout the year at this venue. The auditorium is also available for rent by groups community.
