Rice-Eccles Stadium is an outdoor football stadium located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The owner and operator of the stadium are the University of Utah. It was inaugurated on September 12, 1998, with a construction cost of $50 million. The venue can hold up to 45,807 people in its seating capacity. The architecture of the venue was designed by FFKR Architects. The stadium serves as the home field for Utah Utes Football of the Pac-12 Conference and served as the main stadium for the 2002 Winter Olympics as well. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at this venue for which it was renamed temporarily as “Rice-Eccles Olympic Stadium”. Since 2002, the playing field at Rice-Eccles Stadium has been Field Turf.
The venue has served as host to several events, games, and ceremonies including concerts performed by well-known artists. On June 17, 2000, the NSYNC band held a concert with an opening act of ‘Pink’. Later, on May 24, 2011, the U2 band Irish rock performed a concert with the opening act The Fray on the 360° Tour with a record attendance of 47,710 people. They gained revenue of $3,029,760 on this remarkable event. In 2022 Garth Brooks and the Imagine Dragons are performing concerts as well. Other famous events include the LoveLoud2018 Evolve World Tour with the opening acts of Grace Vander Waal, Zedd, Mike, Shinoda, Tyler Glenn, Vagabon, A.W, Cameron, and Esposito.
