Scott Stadium is a football stadium located at 1815 Stadium Road, Charlottesville, VA. Itis the home field to the Virginia Cavaliers football team. The stadium is the oldest active football stadium in Virginia. The facility is owned and operated by the University of Virginia. It was built and opened to the general public on October 15, 1931, completed at the cost of $300,000. Edmund S. Campbell designed the architecture of the venue. In 1981 the first stadium expansion project to the stadium capacity arrived when grass hill and upper deck seating allowed 40,000 fans. In 2000 another expansion took place at the cost of $25 Million and allowed additional 20,000 fans. This renovation resulted in adding 44 luxury suites, locker rooms, and the pergola plaza above the north hill. Today Scott Stadium seats just over 60,000 fans.
The stadium attendance record was set on August 30, 2008, when 64,947 fans watched the Cavaliers play Southern California. The first night game at Scott Stadium was played on October 29, 1982, using portable lights leading to the installation of permanent lights the following year. It also hosts other events such as concerts by famous bands like the Dave Matthews Band in 2001, Rolling Stones in 2005, and U2 in 2009. The venue had also hosted the ACC Women's Lacrosse Tournament in 2008 and the Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship in 1977.
