Florida Theatre is located at 128 E Forsyth Street, Jacksonville, Florida. It is an American historic movie theater that was opened to the general public on April 8, 1927, with a seating capacity of 1,900 people at a time. The venue was previously under the ownership of Arts Assembly of Jacksonville but later got separated from the art assembly as an independent entity that is governed by its board of directors. It is considered to be one of only four left high style movie palaces that were built in Florida during the boom of Mediterranean Revival architectural (the 1920s) among the Polk Theatre in Lakeland, the Saenger Theatre in Pensacola, and the Tampa Theatre in Tampa. The architecture of the venue is designed by R. E. Hall & Co.and Roy A. Benjamin. The theater was added in the list of National Register of Historic Places on November 4, 1982. It underwent renovations in the year 1981 with a cost of $5 million which was reopened to the public on August 26, 1983.

In the year 1926-1960, the theatre was said to be in its golden age. It hosted many live performances and movie shows before being occupied by a police station and jail (but was demolished soon). The venue was the largest theatre in Florida when it was inaugurated. The opening night ceremony was accompanied by several events including a live stage show, fanfare of the American Legion Bugle Corps, stage presentations, newsreels, and the Let It Rain film. The Florida Theatre currently serves permanent home to the Florida Ballet, the annual Community Nutcracker, and the TheatreWorks.
