Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is a football facility located at the University of Oklahoma, 180 West Brooks, Norman, Oklahoma. It is also known as The Palace on the Prairie or the Owen Field. The stadium serves as the home field to the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Inaugurated for the public on October 20, 1923, the stadium was built at a construction cost of approximately $293,000. It has a large seating capacity of around 80,126 people, making it the world’s 23rd largest stadium and the 15th largest college stadium in the United States. It is owned and managed by the University of Oklahoma. Layton & Hicks designed the original architecture of the stadium. Famous designing firms created the renovated venue; HOK Sport and 360 Architecture. It is considered the fifth largest stadium in the Big 12 Conference.
The Oklahoma Sooners played their first game at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on October 20, 1923, against Washington University by a score of 62-7. On November 2, 1940, Nebraska beat the Sooners with 13-0, in front of a crowd of 33,377 people. The stadium achieved its highest record of 88,388 people on November 11, 2017, when Oklahoma Sooners played against the TCU Horned Frogs football team. Famous rock bands, The Black Eyed Peas and U2, performed a concert at the stadium in 2009.
