The inauguration of this venue took place on September 16, 1966, with a seating capacity of 3,800. The opera house is under the ownership of the Metropolitan Opera Association, and the architecture was designed by Wallace K. Harrison. It is the largest repertory opera house in the world. The house serves home to the Metropolitan Opera Company and is known to be the most technologically advanced stage holder in the entire world.
