Huntington Bank Stadium, previously TCF Bank Stadium, is an outdoor stadium located at 420 SE 23rd Avenue Minneapolis, Minnesota. This stadium is owned and operated by the University of Minnesota. The architecture of the building was designed by Populous (formerly HOK Sport) and Architectural Alliance Studio Hive. It took a total cost of $303 million to construct this stadium into what shape it is today. The stadium was officially opened on September 12, 2009, and became the home field of the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big Ten Conference. It has a horse-shoe style design that impresses the public. The stadium underwent some changes in the year 2014 to accommodate the Minnesota Vikings while their home field was under construction. However, Huntington Bank Stadium is serving as a current home field to the Drum Corps International Minnesota event, taking place each year since 2010.
The massive scoreboard added to this stadium was designed and built by Daktronics at the cost of $9 million, which is currently the most massive scoreboard of the nation’s stadium. The names of the state’s 87 countries are carved in stone around the perimeter of the first level to pay tribute to the citizens of Minnesota to acknowledge that the venue came into existence with taxes statewide. The architecture of Huntington Bank Stadium is designed in such a way that the seating can be expanded to approximately 80,000 in the future.
The stadium served host to an outdoor NCAA hockey game between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Ohio State Buckeyes on January 17, 2014. Some famous artists who performed concerts at the stadium are U2, Kesha, Beyonce, One Direction, and many more.
