Spartan Stadium, previously known as Macklin Stadium, is a football stadium located at 1 Spartan Way, East Lansing, Michigan. It serves home to the Michigan State University Spartans. The venue opened for the general public on October 6, 1923, with a construction cost of around $160,000. It has a seating capacity of approximately 75,005 people. Edwyn Bowd and Orlie Munson designed the architecture of the venue. Over the years, it has gone through several renovations and expansions. It features 800 club seats, 24 luxury suites, a modern recruiting lounge, and the grand entrance.
Since the opening of Spartan Stadium, Michigan State has won 70 percent of its games played in the venue. In 1991, the stadium added a chapter to its storied history as a then world-record where a crowd of 80,401 attended the game between Spartans and Notre Dame. The Spartans played their 500th game at the stadium on October 12, 2013, against Indiana. It also hosted a regular-season hockey game between Michigan State and Michigan with a tie of 3-3 in 2001, which briefly held the record for the largest hockey attendance of all time. An American country music singer Shannon Brown performed during the intermission of this game. Well-known bands and artists, including The Rolling Stones, U2, and Lenny Kravitz, have performed at the stadium.
