Doheny State Beach is one of the protected beaches located on the Pacific Ocean in Dana Point, in the state park system of California. The beach is a famous surf spot located right at San Juan Creek's mouth, flowing from the Santa Ana Mountains southwest to Doheny State Beach to create a freshwater lagoon. The governing body for this beach is the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

Doheny State Beach was donated for public use by oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny on May 31, 1931. Being California's first state beach, the beach was named Doheny State Beach in honor of its donor. The original donation of each was scattered on 41 acres. The acquisitions from the Santa Fe Railroad, University of California Regents, and Union Oil Company added 21 acres. Doheny State Beach covers 62 acres and includes a day-use surfing beach at the northern end.

Doheny State Beach is stated to be one of California's most popular camping grounds. It attracts over 850,000 people every year and has a visitor center with several aquariums and tide pools. The beach is also home to various marine life, including several types of sea bass, harbor seal, kelp, the common dolphin, octopus, stingrays, and sharks.
