The Cajun Field Stadium was open to the general public on September 25, 1971. It has a seating capacity of approximately 41,264 people. The Cajun Field Stadium is under the ownership and is operated by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The stadium underwent renovations in the years 1992, 2008, and 2014. It's American Football team primarily uses the Cajun Field Stadium. It serves as a home field to Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football (NCAA).

The stadium has won the Sun Belt Conference Attendance Championship in the years 2004, 2008, and 2011. The sports venue serves as the home field to Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics. It has served host to several games such as the New Orleans Bowl played at the stadium with Southern Miss defeating the Arkansas State, the Tulane Green Wave Football team used the stadium for a home game, etc. Cajun Field has also hosted the final preseason game between the New Orleans Breaker of the United States Football League and Memphis ShowBoats.
