The stadium is located at South 1st Street, Champaign, Illinois. It is a memorial to the students of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, who lost their lives in World War I. The stadium was open to the general public on November 3, 1923. It has a seating capacity of approximately 60,670 people. The Memorial Stadium is under the ownership and is operated by the University of Illinois. The stadium went through major renovations in the years 1985, 2008, and 2013. Holabird and Roche are the architects who designed the Memorial Stadium in Illinois.

The Memorial Stadium serves as the home field to the Illinois Fighting Illini (NCAA). Chicago Illinois game was the very first game that was played at the partial Stadium on November 3, 1923. The Memorial Stadium has hosted several games, including the NCAA Men’s Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, along with the NFL’s Chicago Bears. The stadium also plays host to the IHSA Football State Finals since 1999. The stadium serves as the line for Illinois Marathon that is held every fourth weekend each April. The Memorial Stadium hosted it was very first Farm Aid concert on September 22, 1985.
