Shell Energy Stadium, formerly known as BBVA Stadium, is an American multi-purpose stadium located at 2200 Texas Avenue, Houston, Texas. It was formed under the ownership of Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. The venue serves as a home field to the Houston Dynamo (a Major League Soccer club), Texas Southern Tigers Football team (NCAA), and the Houston Dash (NWSL). With a seating capacity of 22,039 people, the stadium is under the ownership of Harris County-Houston sports Authority while operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group. The venue was inaugurated on May 12, 2012, with a construction cost of $95 million. The architecture of such a splendid building was designed by the world’s leading sports architect, Populous. Shell Energy Stadium received an award for its revolutionary construction and astonishing design.
The first event held here was a soccer match played by Houston Dynamo Academy on May 10, 2012. After this event, the stadium became home to several international games. The United States Women’s National Team made its first appearance with a win over China PR at the end of the year 2012. Shell Energy Stadium hosted the 2012-13 IRB Women’s Sevens World Series. However, the series was, later on, moved to Kennesaw, Georgia, where it remained ever since. The stadium gave privilege to the Gaelic Football team to play their first-ever game on an MLS pitch on August 3, 2014. Houston Cougars played two games as well, while the TDECU Stadium was under construction.
