Tchaikovsky Spectacular

Frost Amphitheater is the more common name given to the Laurence Frost Amphitheater. It is a prominent theater at Stanford University that was inaugurated in 1973. The venue was the site of commencement ceremonies for the university between 1938 to 1984. The amphitheater has a seating capacity of 8,000 people. Constructed in 1937, the venue was a gift given by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Frost in memory of their son, John Laurence Frost, who graduated in 1935 and, the same year, died of polio.

Frost Amphitheater is a tree-lined, grassy, bowl-shaped site which is designed by landscape architect Leslie Kiler. The amphitheater has been serving as a host throughout the years to many events. This includes a prominent speech by Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev in 1992. Also, 14 big shows have been played by the Grateful Dead at the Frost Amphitheater throughout the years. An annual Frost Music and Arts Festival is hosted by the Stanford Concert Network, a student organization, at the Amphitheater each May since 2012. This has event featured headliners like MGMT, Dispatch, Flume, Modest Mouse, and Fetty Wap and Delorean, Kuroma, Paper Void, Eyes Lips Eyes, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Yeasayer, Kaytranada, and AlunaGeorge.
