The Mars Volta

The State Theatre is a historic theatre located at Congress Street in downtown Portland. The theatre holds the capacity to seat 1,870 people at a time. The State Theatre's door opened to the public for the first time on November 8, 1929. Currently, it is under the ownership of Crostone, LLC and operated by The Bowery Presents and Higher Ground. The enormous State Theatre was designed by Herbert W. Rhodes featuring Moorish and Art Deco architecture. In the late 1940s through the 1960s, the State Theatre expanded its programming to include theatrical and dance production. It has been renovated several times after the late 1960s. The last renovation was held in 2010 to bring the aging building back to code and to outfit it as a modern performing arts venue. The State Theatre is a creative combination of Spanish, Italian, and Art Deco aesthetics. It aimed to give the audience the most vibrant film experience of the era.

The State Theatre hosts uncountable shows annually from all genres of entertainment including films, concerts, theatre, family shows, comedy shows, live acts, stage shows, dance performances, and much more. Some famous events that were hosted at State Theatre include Trespasser along with famous cartoons of the day like Bugs Bunny, Pork Pig and Popeye, Recess time, Avett Brothers, Iron and Wine, Bright Eyes, Pretty Lights, Queen of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkey, Aziz Ansari and many more. The famous artists who performed at State Theatre include McArthur Fellow and award-winning performer Taylor Mac.
