The Sound of Music
The Ohio Theatre is a performing arts center which is located at 39 E. State Street, Columbus, Ohio. The theatre was opened to the public on March 17, 1928, with a seating capacity of around 2,779 people at a time. The arena is owned and operated by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts. Thomas W. Lamb designed the architecture of the theater. Also, the decoration of the theatre was done by Anne Dornin.
A silent film with Greta Garbo “The Divine Woman” is the first film that was shown at the theatre. The arena hosts hundreds of shows and performances every year. Some of the famous artists who have rocked the theater are Conrad Nagel, Fred Waring, Milton Berle, Buddy Ebson, Ray Bolger, Jack Benny, and Ginger Rogers. Judy Garland and Jean Harlow also performed on the stage occasionally. The theatre has been a premiere area showcase for the MGM’s and other studio films. Double features also became the norm in the late 1930s. Programs like Gone with the Wind went hit at the Ohio Theatre. Sound films started to show at the theatre in August 1928.
