Appalachian Wireless Arena is a multi-purpose arena located at 126 Main Street, Pikeville, Kentucky. It opened on October 3, 2005, with a construction cost of around $2.9 million. The venue has a seating capacity of 7,000 people for concerts and 5,700 for sporting events. The arena is under the ownership of the Commonwealth of Kentucky while managed by SMG. It features several conference rooms, 5000 feet of ballroom, an outdoor street-side stage, and a kitchen.
Since its opening, the Appalachian Wireless Arena has hosted a variety of shows and acts starting from 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Godsmack, Martina McBride, Larry the Cable Guy, Chris Stapleton, Trace Adkins, Alice Cooper, Casting Crowns, Hank Williams, Montogomery Gentry, Marinda Lambert, Kid Rock, Blake Shelton, Alan Jackson, Marshall Tucker Band, Kansas, Eric Church, Avenged Sevenfold, Tim McGraw, Chevelle, to Shinedown, and many more.
Fans have also enjoyed a variety of other events in the arena, such as Monster Trucks, Sesame Street Live, Motorsports, Disney Live, Circus, WWE, Lipizzaner Stallions, etc. The venue also serves host to conferences, graduations, conventions, proms, meetings, and much more. The arena has served as host for Midsouth conference college basketball tournaments and regional high school tournaments. It is also home to a wide variety of sporting events such as BMX and the former NAIA basketball National Champions.
