US Open Tennis - Session 8 (Louis Armstrong)

Louis Armstrong Stadium is a tennis stadium located at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Flushing, Queens, New York City. It has a seating capacity of 14,000. The venue opened for the public in 2018 with the architecture of the building completed by Rossetti Architects. The stadium was inaugurated as a replacement for the 1978 stadium of the same name. The venue is named after the famous jazz musician, Louis Armstrong who lived nearby until he died in 1971. Louis Armstrong Stadium has a retractable roof along with a DecoTurf surface.

Louis Armstrong Stadium was the 13th largest tennis venue across the globe at the time of its opening. It was the first stadium with a roof and is well-ventilated by natural means. The venue is distributed in two levels: the cantilevered upper bowl having over 7,000 unreserved seats and the lower bowl having 6,400 reserved seats. The former stadium was demolished following the 2016 US Open, and a temporary 8,800-seat stadium was built on the site while construction was still ongoing. The venue opened on August 22, 2018, and the first official match was played on August 27, 2018, during the US Open. The game was played between Simona Halep and Kaia Kanepi which Kanepi won in two sets.
