The Saenger Theatre is an atmospheric theatre downtown, which is located at 1111 Canal Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70112-2625. It was opened for the public on February 4, 1927. The theatre has a seating capacity of around 2,600 people at a time. Renovation of the theatre was done through the years 1978-1980 and 2009-2011. The place is owned by the Canal Street Development Corporation and operated by the Ambassador Theatre Group. The architect of the theatre was designed by Emile Weil.
The venue was almost destroyed in the year 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, but sooner the process of its restoration got initiated. In December 2011 the renovation of the auditorium was finalized. At the opening ceremony of this auditorium, a silent movie and a stage play (Produced by the Paramount-Publix Corporation) was featured while the music was produced by Saenger Grand Orchestra. After its reopening in 1980, a gala performance was organized where Johnny Carson Performed. In 2002, the theatre showed three-class movies “Some Like It Hot,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Gone with the Wind.”
