The Modell performing arts center is formally known as, "Lyric Opera House" while initially known as, "The Music Hall." It is situated at 110 W Mount Royal Ave, Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a music venue located near the University of Baltimore which was opened on October 31st, 1984. The inauguration ceremony was filled with the performances of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Nellie Melba (an Australian opera singer). It was home to Baltimore Opera company from 1950 till 2009 and is under the ownership of The Lyric Foundation. The architect of this music venue is carried out by T.Henry Randall.
The Lyric was used primarily as a concert hall as well as for touring performances by the Metropolitan Opera. The center underwent significant renovation in the year 1920. From the year 1980 till 1982, some significant repairs were done which transformed the hall into an opera house. The most recent renovation was done in the year 2014. With a current seating capacity of 2564, the opera hosted some major events including, Lightweight boxing (1905) sports event, the first public showing electric cooking event, etc. One of the most popular performers that appeared on the stage is the Cats (1987) that played for over 75,000 public.
