Neyland Stadium is a sports stadium that is located in Knoxville, Tennessee. The venue broke ground on March 21, 1921, and it officially opened for the public on September 24, 1921. The stadium is owned and operated by the University of Tennessee. It has a seating capacity of 102,455 (since 2010). The total construction cost of the stadium was $42,000. McCarty Holsaple McCarty designs the architecture of the building. Neyland Stadium was previously named Shields–Watkins Field (1921–1962). It primarily serves as the home ground to the Tennessee Volunteers football team. The venue is also used to host large conventions. It is one of the favorite sites for several National Football League (NFL) exhibition games.

Neyland Stadium is said to be the fifth-largest stadium in the entire country. It is also the seventh-largest stadium globally, and when it comes to Southeastern Conference, the stadium is the second largest. The current name of the venue is given in honor of Robert Neyland. He was the one who served three stints at the University of Tennessee as head football coach between 1926 and 1952. The stadium underwent many major renovations in 2006, 2008, and 2010. It also underwent expansions in 1926, 1929, 1937–1938, 1948, 1962, 1966, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1987, 1990, and finally 1996.

Neyland Stadium was ranked as the nation’s #1 college football stadium during a poll in The Sporting News, which took place in Spring 2001. Sports Illustrated also ranked the stadium and the surrounding Knoxville area and the University of Tennessee campus; as the best college football weekend experience. On April 8, 2009, it was announced that the Neyland Stadium was one of seventy stadiums that were named for the US’s bid to either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.
