Chevalier Theatre is one of Boston's hidden gems and historical landmarks located at Forest Street, Medford. It is three theatres in one. The Chevalier Theatre was first open to the general public in 1940 as part of the Medford High School Complex. It has a seating capacity of 1,900 people. Currently, it is owned by the City of Medford and operated by Bill Blumenreich. It has a rich architecture with Greek revival exterior and Art Deco interior designed by Works Progress Administration. The venue has undergone a series of renovations with a major one in 2017. It is the sixth-largest theatre in Boston. Its name is dedicated to Godfrey de Courcelles Chevalier, a resident of Medford who attended Medford High School and distinguished himself in World War I as a Naval Hero and Aviation Pioneer. Chevalier Theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Chevalier Theatre is built to welcome stand-up comedians, actors, and musicians. It is available for rental to theatrical groups, special events, sound recording studio, stage shows, and many other entertainment events. Some notable events that were held at Chevalier Theatre include Peg and Cat Live, Evening with Marie and Osmond, Erth's Prehistoric Aquarium Adventure, The Greatest Love of All, Jambalaya a Horn Concert, A Night of American Music, Spring Show, Phil Bass at Forbidden Broadway and much more.
