Rentschler Field Stadium is a multi-purpose sports stadium located at 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford, Connecticut. The stadium has a seating capacity of 40,000 people, which can be extended to 42,704. It served as home to the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies and was previously home to the Hartford Colonials of United Football League. The Rentschler Stadium first opened to the general public on August 30, 2003. Currently, it is owned by the State of Connecticut while managed and operated by Spectra. The total construction cost of this magnificent stadium was estimated to be $91.2 million. Ellerbe Becket designed the rich architecture of the site.
Rentschler Field Stadium initially used to test flights and maintenance operations but later used for corporate aviation. It was assigned as an airport in 1990. Rentschler Field Stadium is also the first-ever stadium used by an NCAA Division I-A team. The notable football matches played by UConn Huskies at Rentschler Field Stadium include a match against Boston College in 2003, Duke in 2004, Buffalo in 2005, West Virginia in 2006, Louisiana in 2007, and Michigan in 2013.
Other than football, the stadium also hosted several of the United States Men’s Soccer Team's home games, United States Women’s National Soccer Team's home games, Connecticut Underground of the Freedom Football League 2010, CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013, and Tournament of Nations in 2018.
