Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox

Black Jacket Symphony
Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, also known as the Fox Theater, is located in Spokane, Washington. The venue opened for the public in 1931 with a total construction cost of $1 million. It is under the ownership of Spokane Symphony and is operated by the same. The architecture of the theater building is done by Robert C. Reamer, who is best known for his special design of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone Park. The theater has shown movies, concerts, and theatre productions since its inception. From its opening till 2000, the venue continuously showed films but closed on September 21, 2000.
The theater was saved after closing in 2000 when the Spokane Symphony bought the venue for $1.1 million. Soon the building underwent a major renovation, and some prominent architectural features were renamed to honor the fund donors. The renovation was completed in 2007 and was renamed the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Martin Woldson Theater opened with a live production of About Town by Fanchon and Marco. The opening production was followed by the film Merely Mary Ann which was shown one week later. Mitzi Green, George O'Brien, Victor McLaglen, Anita Page, and El Brendel attended the opening performance gala.
When the theater officially reopened on November 19, 2007, there was a special celebration featuring a performance by Tony Bennett. Some other notable performances at the theater include Katharine Hepburn, in As You Like It, accompanied by Marian Anderson, and Bing Crosby. Also, Michelle Obama held a rally campaigning for her husband's presidential campaign in 2008.
