The Majestic Theatre is located at 224 E. Houston Street, San Antonio, Texas, USA. It is the largest atmospheric theatre which is also the oldest in San Antonio. The theatre has a seating capacity of 2,264, and it is under the ownership of the City of San Antonio. The venue is operated by Ambassador Theatre Group. It was inaugurated on June 14, 1929, with the architecture designed by John Eberson.
The Majestic Theatre San Antonio was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1975, and was stated as Texas Historic Landmark in 1991 along with a National Historic Landmark on April 19, 1993. This venue served home to the San Antonio Symphony from 1989 to 2014. It was known as the largest theatre in Texas for many years as well as the second largest in the USA. The venue was claimed to be the first that was installed with air conditions. The opening ceremony of the theatre was accompanied by the musical film, Follies of 1929 and live performances by Mexican Troubador Don Galvan. It was also billed for having one of the largest collections of stuffed birds in Texas at the opening ceremony. Some notable events held at the theatre are West Point of the Air (world premiere), The Texans, the world premiere of The Alamo, and many famous world premieres were held at the venue.
