John Paul Jones Arena is located at 295 Massie Road, Charlottesville, VA. It is owned by the University of Virginia and operated by SMG. The arena was opened to the general public on August 01, 2006, with a construction cost of $131 million. The architecture of the JPJ arena was designed by VMDO Architects. It served as a home field to the Virginia Cavaliers (Men’s and Women’s basketball teams) since it came into existence. John Paul Jones Arena has a seating capacity of 14,593 for a basketball game and around 12,000 to 15,500 seats for the concert. This arena is regarded as the biggest Atlantic Coast Conference basketball arena and the largest indoor arena in Virginia.

On the day of the inauguration, Virginia’s women's basketball team defeated Old Dominion University, and the Men’s basketball team of Virginia defeated Arizona. The following year, men’s basketball defeated Virginia Tech, snatching the first place in the final ACC regular-season standings. The famous artist Jay-Z played a concert on October 25, 2008, making him the first hip-hop act of the arena. The next year, Metallica played their “World Magnetic” tour on October 17, supported by Lamb of God and Gojira. Phish played their final show of the 2009 Fall Tour on December 5. In September 2010, the Professional Bull riders brought Built Ford Tough Series tour to the arena. Paul McCartney played his show on June 23, 2015, as part of his 2015 Out There tour at the JPJ arena. The arena has held similar concerts and games since its opening and made a name of its own.
