The Sun Bowl Stadium is an outdoor football stadium located at Sun Bowl Drive, El Paso, Texas. The venue is owned and operated by the University of Texas-El Paso. It was inaugurated for the general public on September 21, 1963, with a construction cost of $275,000. Garland & Hilles designed the architecture of Sun Bowl Stadium along with Carroll & Double. The stadium has a seating capacity of 51,500 people since 2001. Before that, it could hold 30,000 to 52,000 people in a single event. The land on which the stadium now sits was initially donated to the El Paso County who further built it for the school and Sun Bowl Game. It has been serving as the home field to the UTEP Miners and Sun Bowl since it came into existence. However, other teams had also utilized the stadium as their home field from time to time. The venue has FieldTurf as its current surface as a result of the renovations done by the school's Director, Jim Senter, on April 13, 2018.
Some of the notable events held at Sun Bowl Stadium included Texas vs. The National All-Star College Football Game, U2, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Kenny Chesney's music concerts, Festivities, and Simulcast of the Mass held by Pope Francis. For a short period, it served as the home to the PDL franchise and the El Paso Patriots before they moved at Patriot Stadium. UTEP has played 318 games in the Sun Bowl Stadium and enjoyed undefeated home records in 1988 (6-0) and 2000 (5-0).
Tickets for the events to be held at Sun Bowl Stadium are available on their official website and at the Box Office. You can also purchase them online at TicketsOnSale.com at a lower price.
