The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a motor racing course located in Speedway, Indiana. The track is home to the Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500, with a seating capacity of approximately 257,327 and a 400,000 limit. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is owned by Penske Entertainment Group and operated by IMS, LLC, which opened on August 12, 1909. The speedway was designed by different architects, including Arthur Newby, F. H. Wheeler, James A. Allison, and Carl G. Fisher.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosted a day of short racing events termed “Harvest Classic” on September 9, 1916. It was composed of three races, and the same person, Johnny Aitken, won all three races.
Tony George brought back the Formula One race to the United States in 1998 for the first time since 1991. The construction and renovation project started at the facility to add an infield road course and form the first United States Grand Prix in 2000.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway made an appearance in the 2013 animated film “Turbo” by DreamWorks Animation. Other events such as OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon (May 1997), the 1987 Pan American Games (August 8, 1987), and Era Balloon Festival (May 2009, 2010, 2011).
