Ovens Auditorium is located at 2700 East Independence Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina. This large building was opened to the general public in 1955 in the name of David Ovens, vice president of J.B Ivey department store. It has a seating capacity of 2,447 people at a time. The venue is owned by Charlotte Regional Visitor Authority. This auditorium encountered minor renovations in 2002, upgrading the ADA compliance, step ahead acoustic and sound system for its weary visitors giving an outstanding idyllic environment. In 2008, Pollster named Ovens 38th among the top theater.
It has hosted more than 7500 events including live concerts of Alicia Keys, Arab Idol, Regina Belle, and Pink Floyd, Diana Ross, Ray Charles. On 4th October 1955, the first event to be held at the venue was the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
Some other events include Orchestra, comedy shows, high school and college graduations, family shows, and speaking sessions making Ovens Auditorium the heart of all the events hosted in NC. It has a rich history of 60 years of entertainment and historical events. Some pop and rock stars that set the stage on fire are The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, and a few others. Some famous comedians that were hosted by the auditorium are Jay Leno, Carol Burnett, Jerry Seinfeld, Aziz Ansari, and Jeff Foxworthy.
