The Taft Theatre is a performing arts theatre, located at 317 East Fifth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio. It has a seating capacity of 2,500. It was opened in 1928 being part of the Masonic Temple Building at Fifth and Sycamore streets. It is now owned by Scottish Rite and operated by Music & Event Mgmt. Inc. and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The theatre underwent $3 million worth of upgrades and renovations for air conditioning, seating, restroom improvements, and other amenities to meet modern-day theatre standards.
Taft Theatre has hosted the world's best talent in the field of opera, music, comedy, and dance and other special events. All types of music from rock, country, jazz, and metal to folk, neoclassical, hip-hop, bluegrass, and indie rock are played there. The Taft Theatre also features a children's' shows and theater productions.
The venue has hosted events including Children's Theatre of Cincinnati: Casper The Friendly Musical, Brian Regan, Glen Hansard, Tommy Emmanuel, Fotofocus Biennial Exhibitions, Nate Bargatze, Million Dollar Quartet, Anjelah Johnson, BWZ - Taft in Cincinnati, and many more. Notable artists who performed at the venue include Joe Bonamassa, Ingrid Michaelson, Tedeschi trucks band, Here come the mummies, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Alice Cooper, Gavin Degraw with David cook, Crosby and Nash, Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros, Grizzly bear, Merle Haggard, Josh Ritter, and many more. The theatre played host to the politically motivated Vote for Change Tour on October 2, 2004, featuring performances by Keb' Mo,' Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne.
