The Don Haskins Center is located at 500 West University Avenue, El Paso, Texas. It was formerly known as the Special Events Center. The venue has a seating capacity of 11,892 (Basketball) and 12,567 (concerts). The inauguration of this center took place on February 3, 1977, with a construction cost of $10 million.
The venue serves home to UTEP Miners men's and women's basketball. The architecture of the stadium is done by B. W. Crane Architects. The Haskins Center includes a Robbins Bio-Channel Star maple floor, installed in the summer of 2002, as well as two modern locker rooms, training facilities, and basketball coaches' offices.
In addition to hosting sports events, the Don Haskins Center is also used by many schools of the area, such as El Paso Community College, for graduation and commencement ceremonies purposes. It is also an entertainment venue that hosted some big-name acts such as pop star Shakira's Tour of the Mongoose, Oral Fixation Tour and The Sun Comes Out World Tour, along with Britney Spears during her Circus Tour. The popular comedian George Lopez and rock band KISS, both performed at this center.
Currently, the Don Haskins Center is a dominant concert venue in the area, and it is also the regional stop for World Wrestling Entertainment. Shakira currently holds the record of performing the most shows in the arena as a female artist. She performed in the venue for the very first time with Tour of the Mongoose. She brought The Sun Comes Out World Tour to the venue. The Cure played a memorable gig on May 17, 2016, at the Don Haskins Center.
