Massey Hall is a concert hall located at 178 Victoria Street, Toronto, Ontario. It opened as a theater for performing arts for the general public on July 14, 1894. The idea behind building the Massey Music Hall was proposed by Hart Massey, who wanted to make a music hall for charming gatherings. A total construction cost of $152,390.75 was spent on this beautiful building. The venue was marked as a National Historic Site of Canada on June 15, 1981. Sidney Badgley designed the exquisite architecture of the building. Currently, The theater is owned by The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall.
Massey Hall hosts a wide variety of different events related to business and entertainment. Several notable and famous figures have visited the Massey Hall, such as Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, along with Canadian Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier. Massey Hall has also hosted performances by some of the famous artists, including Maria Callas, Ravi Shankar, Billy Joel, and Arturo Toscanini, along with Neil Young, Rush, Matthew Good, Jeff Healey.
Justin Beiber performed at the Massey Hall in front of a jam-packed crowd on December 21, 2011. The venue was also featured in Rusell Peters (a Toronto-born comedian) Netflix original stand up special, "Almost Famous." On October 4, 2017, Harry Styles performed at the Hall.
